KARUNAKARA M REDDY – Founder and CEO

Mr. Karunakara M Reddy, born in an agriculture family on 3rd June 1975, at a remote village called Rangapuram located in Mahabub Nagar district of Andhra Pradesh, India.

Though born to a farmer, he always inclined towards education and a dream to achieve something bigger. After finishing his higher education at Mahaboob Nagar, he graduated with Chemistry and pursued MBA at Hyderabad, Osmania University.

He started his career as a Customer Development Manager in a soft drink company “Pepsi” in 1996 till March 1998. He has a burning desire to become a successful entrepreneur in his mind influenced by conditions in the village where he was born – there was an acute drinking water problem in his village due to both scarcity and poor quality.

In August 1998 he started his own business of selling water treatment equipment as aEnterpreneur. The proprietorship firm started in 1998 and later became a Private Limited Company, “Smaat Aqua Technologies Pvt. Ltd.” in the year 2006. Finally his burning goal to become one of the best solution providers in the areas of water and air related problems in the globe has come to a shape and Smaat is the result of his aspiration.

K.J.Rao - Director

KOMMAJOSYULA JAGANNADHA RAO) is the strong inspirational force behind all Smaat initiatives towards community development.

He was born in Konda Mamidivalasa in Srikakulam District, on 1st March, 1942 and did his schooling in his village; went on to do Graduation in History in Mrs. A.V.N. College, Visakhapatnam (1959 – 62).

He worked as an untrained teacher in Zila Parishad High School, Mettapalli in Srikakulam District (now Vizanagaram District) from August, 1962 to March, 1963. Thereafter he served the central government as an Auditor in Defence Audit Department, Pune from March, 1963 to November, 1966.

After passing the Union Public Service Commission Examination, held in 1965, he joined the Election Commission of India as Assistant on 14th November, 1966 and served in various capacities in that office upto 28th February, 2002, when he retired as Secretary to the Election Commission of India. He was appointed to the post of Consultant, Election Commission of India from 1st March, 2002 to 29th February, 2004, and thereafter as Advisor (Elections and Training), upto 28th February, 2006.

During the most difficult general elections to the Legislative Assembly of Jammu & Kashmir held in September – October, 2002, he was stationed in the State for each phase of elections. He was associated with all aspects of these general elections in the State. His contribution to these elections was commended by the Election Commission of India. Shri J.M. Lyngdoh, former Chief Election Commissioner of India has commended the services of Shri Rao during the Jammu & Kashmir Elections by mentioning in his book titled ‘Chronicle of an Impossible Election’ that Mr. Rao who had single-handedly and fearlessly conducted some of the most difficult enquiries in the field has ultimately become the real hero of Jammu & Kashmir Elections.

Shri Rao was deputed by Election Commission of India as a Resource Person to the Regional Election Management Training Programme for Commonwealth African Countries held at Harare, Zimbabwe from 2nd November, 1998 to 13th November, 1998. Shri Rao has visited Europe and many others countries extensively.

Shri Rao was appointed by the United Nations as Electoral Offences Investigation and Enforcement Officer for the first Presidential Election held in Afghanistan in October, 2004.

Shri Rao was also appointed as an International Observer for the Presidential Elections in United States of America held in 2004.

Shri Rao was awarded “Public Services Excellence Award, 2005, by the All India Management Association, New Delhi for his contribution to ensure free and fair elections in Jammu Kashmir in 2002 and in Bihar in 2005. The Award consisting of a citation and cash component of Rs.51,000/- was conferred on Shri Rao by the Hon’ble President of India, Shri Abdul Kalam on the 21st February, 2006 in Vijyan Bhavan, New Delhi on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of AIMA, 2006.

The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India has appointed Shri Rao as a Member of the Monitoring Committee to monitor sealing of commercial establishments in residential premises in Delhi, in which assignment he is still continuing.

V. Suresh Kumar - Director

Suresh Kumar is the Director of Smaat and also involved in Consulting for Power sector and turnkey Engineering Projects and Director for board of few Indian companies in Power, IT and Engineering Industry.

Suresh holds a M.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.Suresh started his career with the Karnataka Power Corporation Limited. While in the Government, he held series of senior positions, including that of a Chief Advisor, Lafarge India Private Limited for their major Green Field Project in Karnataka. He also worked with various other corporations in a series of senior assignments, including successively being the Director for Karnataka State Projects for business development in Karnataka.

An accomplished leader, he has led several organizations across industries, creating high performance teams and successful businesses. In a career spanning over 35 years, he has worked with the Government, international multilateral agencies and the corporate sector (both public and private).
